Hotel Hell

September 3 is going to be an epic day!  The episode of "Hotel Hell" is airing featuring The Roosevelt Inn!  It'll be on at 8pm on FOX.  We're going all out:  making up Gordon Ramsay dinners served on GR dinnerware for our guests, viewing the episode on a BIG screen on the Inn grounds.  The dinner menu includes poached shrimp salad for an appetizer.  The entree is a braised pork shoulder, baked macaroni and cheese, carmelized and roasted brussel sprouts, rum raisin bread pudding with caramel sauce and two glasses of wine per person. What a deal and only $49 per person (gratuity not included).

Mineral Ridge Hike

Mineral Ridge National Recreation Trail is located 11 miles east of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Drive I-90 east from Coeur d' Alene for 8 miles to the Wolf Lodge Bay exit (exit 22), then south on State Highway 97 for 3 miles. The trailhead is at Mineral Ridge Scenic Area.  There is also access to fishing.

Meet Rohan and Pippin

The camera hog is Rohan.  He is almost a year old and gets into SUCH mischief.  He is too smart for his own good.  Pippin is the 11 year old black lab in the background.  She is such a sweetie.

Sure he looks cute & innocent now...Rohan has learned how to open the gates on the Inn property.  He takes *unauthorized field trips.*  So, for his own protection, the gates now have bungee cords so Mr. Smarty Pants can't go rogue.

                                             Yeah, he knows we're talking about him. ;)

Jim's new assistant

Jim is our chef.  He does an amazing job cooking up all sorts of delicious and appetizing dishes for our guests. This morning, Eden, one of John and Tina's granddaughters, is helping out in the kitchen.  Looks like Jim has a new assistant. :)

Rohan met his Match

Look who finally got wore out?  Rohan is too tired to even move but has just enough dog tired determination to hang onto his toy.

Hiking Tubbs Hill

There are so many things to see and do in and around Coeur d' Alene.  For many who want something to do in town, it's taking a hike around Tubbs Hill.  There are two entrances to the 124 acre park: the west entrance is located at the third street parking lot.  The east side trail entrance is located at the south end of 10th Street. This hike has beautiful views of the lake and is easy for the entire family.  The cost:  FREE.  The time spent with family and/or friends and making lifelong memories?  Priceless. The Roosevelt Inn is located just a few minutes away from the entrance to Tubbs Hill.

History of the Roosevelt

I love old buildings, don't you?  The architecture has so much history.  Every old building has a story to tell (or lots of them).  This article is from wikipedia: 

The Roosevelt School was constructed in 1905 as an elementary school for grades first through sixth. The school was built primarily to service the needs of families in the city center. Initially two grades shared each class room, and on occasion the school would handle overflow from the high school. Due to growth in Coeur d'Alene, in the 1945 the school began serving only grades first through fourth. The building operated as a school through 1971 at which time a larger more modern school was erected. The original bell tower was destroyed during a wind storm in 1958. The bell tower was not fully restored until 1994.

After the building was no longer in use as an elementary school, the Board of Education used the facility as a storage and book depository until 1979. In 1979 the Board of Education sold the building to Jonas Marias who turned the Roosevelt School into an office building. During this renovation a third story was added to the building. This renovation reduced the original ceiling heights from 18 feet to 10 feet. The effects of this addition are seen in the bricks on the front facade which had to be installed to align the new windows. The school was operated as an office building from 1982 until 1992 when it was converted to a bed and breakfast and reopened in 1994.

Tina and John Hough purchased the property in 1999 and are the current Innkeepers. John Hough attended the Roosevelt School as a student from first to fourth grade.

 Current

The Roosevelt Inn Bed and Breakfast is located near downtown Coeur d'Alene four blocks away from Lake Coeur d'Alene in North Idaho. Operating as a bed and breakfast The Roosevelt Inn has fifteen rooms, including two that are handicap accessible. The Roosevelt is listed on the National Register of Historic Places^[1] and is recognized as a historic inn in America.

A renovation of the bell tower took place in 2000, turning it into a two-story suite which looks out on Lake Coeur d'Alene. In 2008 the basement of the school was renovated into a banquet hall and meeting facility capable of seating up to 60 people.

The Adventures of Rohan

Rohan is one of the Innkeepers pets.  He is a boisterous and mischievous nine month old golden retriever.  Pippin is Tina and John's 11 year old black laborador retriever.  I like to call her the "old lady."  She is a sweet girl who patiently puts up with Rohan's antics.  Being responsible and loving pet owners, Tina and John made an appt. for Rohan to have his "manhood" altered on Monday.  Poor thing looked so pathetic. It's almost as if he knew what was going to happen.

Fast forward to Tuesday where shortly after I arrived at work, John came downstairs to show Tina the bottle of Rohan's pain pills.  It had multiple puncture marks in it and was now empty.  Putting the bottle out of reach and a child safety top didn't work on keeping a rambunctious 9 month old dog out of the puppy pain pills. A phone call to the vet and then Rohan is whisked to the vet's office. Thank goodness after an overnight stay and an IV to flush the medication from his system, Rohan was as good as new.

Summer has Arrived

It's a gorgeous day in Coeur d' Alene.  Beautiful, clear blue skies, light breeze and the temps are projected to get into the mid 80's today. 

On tap for today:  fresh flowers placed in the front entryway, the parlors and on the dining room tables. 

In the kitchen: fresh spiced and crumble banana bars and banana bread will be baking!  Delicious!

The Triathletes are Here!

It's that time again!  Yup, Ironman is this Sunday, June 24 and the triathletes are arriving!  With the Inn almost full to capacity, it is amazing and inspirational speaking with our guests.  To hear their stories, the Innkeepers and Roosevelt Inn staff are filled with admiration for the tremendous feat our guests are undertaking.  We wish them all much success!
